Overview

This position is located in Hay River, NT.

 

The Asset Manager is a primary driver in improving system reliability and developing cost effective maintenance solutions with an operating division.  An asset manager is active in identifying, inventorying, monitoring, and analysing each asset through its full life cycle.

  • The Asset Manager conducts ongoing asset assessments and analysis using various measurement techniques and data sources to recommend and support business decisions for system and equipment maintenance, upgrades, or disposal.
  • The Asset Manager supports the Reliability Improvement Committee prioritization of major maintenance work, reliability issues, and potential engineering studies
  • The Asset Manager is current with industry leading practices and performance standards and applies these to support the ongoing development and implementation of system and asset specific maintenance and asset management techniques.
  • The Asset Manager supports the development of strategic and tactical maintenance plans to improve overall business results by researching and facilitating the implements of best practice in maintenance management.
  • The Asset Manager is the Thermal Division champion for the development of strategic and tactical maintenance plans with the utilization of the Corporation’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to improve overall business results by researching and facilitating the implements of best practice in maintenance management.

Operates as a supervisor and mentor for direct reports, which includes setting objectives, assigning duties, assessing, and managing individual performance, with the aim of delivering results. This position requires a high degree of autonomy, confidentiality, business decorum and strategic business acumen.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable to ensure that employees and contractors within his/her program work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
  • Accountable to ensure the safety of other employees, contractors, and the public in the workplace by:
    • Ensuring maintenance resources report any failure to adhere to safety practices or rules
    • Ensuring maintenance resources provide detailed orientations and identification of hazards to all visitors
    • Ensuring that maintenance resources remove hazards and make the workplace safe when leaving a work area
  • Actively ensures safety, quality and environment are at the forefront of consideration during the planning and scheduling of maintenance activities.
  • Champions the use and improvements of the CMMS to enhance the asset assessment, analysis and prioritization of system and equipment maintenance, upgrades, or disposal.
  • Supports divisional management in the development of Capital Plans with the PRF process including the annual capital budget, the five-year capital plan and the 20-year capital plan. Ensures that the projects in the Capital Plan reflect the needs, priorities and risks of all communities served by NTPC and the hydro system.
  • Through the creation of Project Recognition Forms, (PRF) facilitates the prioritization of major maintenance work, reliability issues, and potential engineering studies that will be used to identify and quantify potential solutions for their assigned assets. Works with the division management and other divisions as required to gather information required for PRF details. The Asset Manager will use NTPC specific risk management techniques and criteria to prioritize the aforementioned. Actively supports the same activities for the overall corporation as a core member of the Reliability Improvement Committee (RIC).
  • In coordination and cooperation with asset managers of the other Operations Divisions, leads the three-year annual process for producing the NTPC Power System Plan (PSP) and support the ongoing annual maintenance of information by acquiring, organizing, analysing, and managing thermal asset performance data and other information. For the thermal group of assets identifies system needs including asset health, efficiency, reliability, stability, sustainability, load growth, regulatory requirements, risks, and opportunities. Identifies potential projects including upgrades, rehabilitations, replacements, capital additions and new energy options including renewables.
  • Manages assigned capital projects, including coordination with the division asset manager to set the scope of the project, issuing and awarding of quotes, tenders and request for proposals for services and supplies for the capital projects, management of the construction or procurement of the assets and coordination with the asset manager and the Finance Division on the required administration work to close out the capital project in accordance with corporate policies and procedures.
  • All other duties.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years overall experience, of which 4 years is experience in asset assessment and maintenance techniques.
  • Must have at least one year of supervisory experience in supervising, planning, coaching, development, and coordinating the work of others. Supervisory experience includes, but is not limited to, responsibility of hiring, directly assigning work to, assessing the performance of and imposing discipline on employees. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • Eligibility for registration with NAPEG as a Professional Engineer in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in Asset Management in an electrical utility.
  • Accomplished computer skills (MS Office Suite, MS Project, Outlook, etc.) and ability to apply relevant design software.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Above average interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of assets situated in a remote environment.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license is required.
  • Must provide a satisfactory criminal record check.

Salary for this position ranges from $71.15/hr to $88.93/hr.plus location and accommodation allowances of approximately $8,023 per annum.
